That time you kept your composure when someone flipped you off in traffic…🖕🏾
You did not hunk obnoxiously. You may have counted to 10. You acknowledged the rage you were feeling, then you made a #decision to redirect your precious energy towards getting to your location safely — INSTEAD of “evening” the score with the driver that offended you. This is an example of deploying emotional intelligence, which is the capacity… ⠀
- to identify your emotions (what feelings am I experiencing? happiness, sadness, confusion, excitement, discontent…?)⠀
- to manage your emotions (determine the most constructive/healthy path forward)⠀
- to regard the emotional needs of #self and of whomever you share space with. (it will not be a quick fix, but at least you are leading with empathy) ⠀
Ask yourself, does the way I “experience” my emotions and other people’s emotions yield desirable outcomes? OR is it always an uphill battle to talk yourself off the ledge? Figuratively speaking, I’m the latter lbs.😆😅⠀
In efforts of achieving #MentalHealth, which is a journey rather than a destination, a WHOLE LOT OF intentionality andpatience is required. It takes unlearning our “negative self-talk”. It takes giving people space to grow and evolve beyond the negative precedents they have set in the past. ⠀
